Terms of Service
Last updated: April 29, 2025
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Plit mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service") operated by Plit ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Plit, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Please also review our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your personal data and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU/EEA) to use Plit. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are using Plit on behalf of a business, you represent that you are authorized to bind that business to these Terms.
3. Your Account
To use most features of Plit, you must create an account. You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate and complete registration information.
- Maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
You must notify us immediately at support@plitapp.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. We are not liable for losses resulting from unauthorized use of your account.
You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Account → Delete Account). Upon deletion, your data will be removed from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
4. The Service
Plit provides tools to scan receipts using AI, split bills among multiple people, track expenses, and share spending summaries. The Service is provided "as is" and may be updated, modified, or discontinued at any time without notice.
We do not guarantee that the AI receipt scanning will be 100% accurate. You should verify all scanned data before sharing or acting on it. AI-generated category suggestions are for convenience only and may not accurately reflect your intended categorization.
Plit is a tool for personal expense tracking and bill splitting. It is not a financial institution, payment processor, or accounting service. We do not handle money on your behalf.
5. Subscriptions & Payments
5.1 Free Features
Core features of Plit (AI receipt scanning, basic splitting, receipt library) are available free of charge.
5.2 Paid Plans
Plit Pro, Plit Business, and Plit Business Pro are paid subscriptions billed annually. Prices are as displayed in the app and may change with prior notice. All payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) — we do not process payments directly.
5.3 Free Trials
Where offered, a free trial period allows you to use paid features at no charge. Your subscription begins at the end of the trial unless you cancel before the trial period ends.
5.4 Cancellation & Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID or Google Account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access to paid features until then. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google in accordance with their respective policies. We do not issue refunds directly.
5.5 Automatic Renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Plit to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation.
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users.
- Upload or share content that is illegal, defamatory, or infringes on intellectual property rights.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or another user's account.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the app.
- Use the Service for commercial spam or unsolicited communications.
- Create fake accounts or impersonate other people or entities.
- Abuse the friend or sharing system to send unwanted content.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
7. User Content
You retain ownership of any content you submit to Plit, including receipt data, spending notes, and profile information ("User Content").
By submitting User Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.
You are solely responsible for your User Content. You represent that your User Content does not violate any law or third-party rights.
8. Intellectual Property
The Plit name, logo, app design, and all related software, features, and content are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not use our trademarks, logos, or branding without prior written permission.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We do not warrant the accuracy of AI-generated content such as receipt parsing or category suggestions.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PLIT AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $10, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms, with or without notice. You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting your account.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive (including Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) will remain in effect.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Delaware, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.
If you are located in the EU/EEA, nothing in these Terms affects your rights as a consumer under applicable mandatory local law.
